細看Rolling Stone最佳500名單，最先注意到的是：

• 名單中有499首是以英語演唱，492首來自英語系國家的歌曲。衡諸流行音樂中以英文歌曲為主流的現象，這倒也所可厚。就像在美國職棒兩大聯盟勝出即可自稱世界冠軍一樣，因為匯集了來自世界各地的好手，雖然世界冠軍稱號有些自負，但也算「雖不中亦不遠矣」。

• 選出的歌曲大部份集中在1960、1970年代，如果將1950年代也計入，30年間的歌曲佔了80%左右，這讓我們可以猜到評審人員的成長年代及音樂口味，同時也反映了搖滾樂從興起、繁盛到衰微的趨勢。

後面一項觀察結論，讓我們這些60年代的老屁股實在不能不感偒，搖滾樂這個象徵了青春、叛逆、自我主張的ICON，是否即將淹沒在時代的洪流中？

原本想討論最佳500名單，但是寫到這裡心情越發沈重起來，突然想到，這個最佳500名單難道是為搖滾樂蓋棺定論的墓誌銘？無獨有偶，英國廣播公司BBC也同樣在2010年製播了一系列紀錄片I'M IN A ROCK N ROLL BAND！，好像過去式的人事物才會有修訂歷史的必要性吧！？

BBC同時接連發表了幾篇令人沮喪的報導：樂評：英國搖滾現處何地？／排行榜上搖滾樂在消失？／搖滾樂最糟糕的一年。英美兩大巨頭同時用某種型式「紀念」搖滾樂，真是雪上加霜啊。
